Mike Welch

Executive Director

Mike arrived in Jackson in 1992 after spending his youth in Southern California and studying English at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. With more than 30 years’ experience working for local small businesses, larger employers, and nonprofit organizations in Jackson, Mike’s last several years have seen him primarily in independent project management and consulting roles.

From 2009-2014, Mike served as Stewardship Director and then Executive Director at Friends of Pathways, where he promoted sustainable transportation and recreation alternatives in Teton County. In the years since, Mike has become increasingly engaged in affordable housing and other social service, community-building, and planning issues through his work as an employee, nonprofit leader, and board member. Highlights include service as a member of Shelter JH’s policy team and board of directors; team director, founding board member, and coach at JH Youth Mountain Biking; and logistics coordinator with the Teton County Health Department COVID-19 vaccine clinic. More recently, he has worked with the Presbyterian Church of JH on their efforts to construct an employee and affordable housing development.

An advocate by nature, Mike believes strongly that encouraging inclusion and engagement from a broad range of individuals is critical to keeping Jackson Hole vibrant and healthy. Mike’s involvement in local politics over the last decade and his work on several campaigns for office have cemented his belief in the vital importance of participation and input in the political process by all residents of a community.

Mike began collaborating with Wyoming Immigrant Advocacy Project founder Rosie Read several years ago and was a driving force behind the success of the organization’s launch in 2023. He is honored to have a place at WIAP working with Rosie to support individuals and families who represent the best of what our community can offer.

In his free time, Mike can be found on his bike, his skis, or somewhere outside with his wife, Diana, and sons, Bode and Malcolm, enjoying this incredible place that we are lucky enough to call home.
